Scrapbook Shower

Today was the second in a string of spring baby showers, but this one was a bit different because it had a scrapbooking theme. We were actually charged with creating pages in a baby alphabet book. We chose a word or phrase for the letters of the alphabet we were assigned and created a page to "frame" a picture of the baby that goes along with the word. I chose the end of the alphabet, Y and Z. My pages were Yummy/Yucky for a mealtime picture and Zzzz for a sleepytime picture.


Of course I knit something for the shower gift! Since my friend and her husband want to be surprised about the baby's gender, I chose yarns in their nursery colors, yellow (Daisy Ombre) and brown (Chocolate Ombre). My mom had given me some adorable ducky buttons that were perfect for the bibs, and then I just ran with the whole duck theme...

Better than the Superbowl?

While my father and my husband watched the end of the Superbowl, my mother, my sister, and I were having fun at the expense of poor Layla, who just wanted to recover her ball from under the kitchen cabinets. Too bad she was afraid of Rufus!

New Knitting Toy

This, my friends, is a knitting yarn ball winder.

It takes messy leftover yarn like this...

...and turns it into center-pull balls of yarn ready for the next project!

I believe I may have gone a bit overboard today.

The First Shower

The first of the 2011 baby showers is this morning! The nursery for Baby Boy Smyth is going to be in red and blue, but not patriotic. Instead, I went with primary colors for the gift--and a yellow star button on the bib!

Yay! It's FINALLY the weekend!

Game Day Knits

For today's Bears game, I tossed a brand new ball of yarn into my knitting bag to keep my hands busy so I could sit still through the entire game. The yarn color is called "Bronze Blue" and will go well with my friend's lavender and tan nursery.

I cast on a baby bib when we arrived at Bobby G's around 1:00 pm, and by the time the game started at 3:00, I had about 30 rows finished.
At halftime, all 64 rows of the front of the bib were done, and I was starting on the straps. A lot of this was frustrated knitting (yes, I was actually paying attention to the Bears game!).
When the fourth quarter ended, I had finished the bib completely and done about an inch of the matching burp cloth. Unfortunately the Bears lost, but on the bright side, this baby set is going to be adorable when I finish it up!
