Friday Funny

Hopefully Dave doesn't hear this any time soon because of his brand new car...

Stress-Fighting Foods

As my friends and family know, I do not handle stress well. Recently I've been trying to take a more natural approach to fighting stress by researching "stress-fighting foods" online and trying to incorporate them into my diet. My favorite so far has been spinach--lots of spinach salads, a pretty good spinach and chicken recipe, and the omelette below with spinach, red pepper, and bacon bits.

Other good stress-fighting foods include:
  • pumpkin, sesame, and sunflower seeds
  • kiwi, cranberries, plantains, blueberries, citrus fruits
  • raisins, figs
  • chamomile tea
  • dark chocolate
  • skim milk
  • oatmeal
  • salmon
  • walnuts, almonds
  • yogurt
  • broccoli
  • garlic

New Scenery

The last half of my work week has been spent inside the Perimeter attending a training class for the database program we use. We're in a classroom on the 11th floor of the building above.

While not the type of "fun" most would comprehend, I have enjoyed learning new "tricks" and figuring out how to use formerly obscure parts of the program. Not to mention the change in scenery has been a nice break from the routine (despite enduring the traffic to get there...)

Austen Update

Back in January, I joined the Jane Austen Challenge, and I am happy to report that seven months later I have finished my first book, Mansfield Park! I still plan to read Pride and Prejudice, but next I think I'll read a Mansfield Park spin-off called Edmund Bertram's Diary (instead of either The Pemberly Chronicles or The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen...) But first I have to read the next book club pick before we meet on August 1st!

Friday Funny

Yes, it was that bad, Captain Picard! Let's just say it was another boring week of summer (and work) until Dave's car met the bumper of an SUV, and then things just headed downhill from there... he's fine, but we're thinking the car isn't going to make it. Thank goodness it's finally Friday and we both have the weekend to recover!

Star Wars Subway Car

This totally made my day! I love how everyone seems to have their camera phone out...

I just noticed that I did two Star Wars posts in a row! What are the odds?

Friday Funny

The End

Since the day Dave and I got married (June 12, United States v. England), the World Cup has occupied a good chunk of our married life. I can't say I'll be sad to see the final game over and the droning of the vuvuzelas silenced... at least until our four year anniversary.

Friday Funny

Because it's been a long week, and this just makes me giggle...

Harry Potter and the Passage of Time

On a happy note, HistoryDiva has a British copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone that I brought back from England for her several years back. She also has a copy in German from a friend who lives out in Germany. I must say that HistoryDiva has some awesome friends!

Suite Seats

Dave scored some suite tickets to the Braves v. Nationals game on Monday night. I took a bunch of gratuitous Chipper pics for my BFF Heather since she is far away in California.

Sweet seats? Definitely!
