I got to take a road trip down to Jonesboro yesterday after work to meet with Dave and a deacon to start planning our wedding. Before I could head home, I had to get gas...


It's been a couple of years since I've gotten gas for this cheap!!! I got 10 cents off per gallon thanks to Mom's propensity to shop at Kroger... a lot...

Chili Cook Off

Dave and I braved the forecast to go to the chili cook off at Stone Mountain Park this weekend. Some friends have entered for the past few years, and I was never able to make it out. This year, I vowed that I would go. Here are a few random picture I took on my phone (I didn't want to take my camera in case it decided to pour...)

Jury Selection

I had to go back to the courthouse today. I brought better reading material with me this time... no Nicholas Sparks to make them wonder why a potential juror is bawling her eyes out! Notice below that I have covered over the decaying zombie part of the face of my copy of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (Book Club selection for October...)


After a couple of hours, the 18 of us summoned today got to experience jury selection. It was actually kind of fascinating. Being that I was the last person on the list, I was not selected to serve on this particular jury. But I get to call back tonight to see if they want me to report in tomorrow!

Flood Funny

Jury Duty

I've been summoned for jury duty this week, but fortunately was not called up for selection today. They released all of us that remained in the jury "holding pen" at lunchtime, but I have to call tonight to find out if I am needed tomorrow. Basically, I am at the beck and call of the courthouse the entire week. Luckily I work just down the road so that I can easily work half-days if need be (like today...)

Of course I brought reading material with me this morning, but I chose a book by Nicholas Sparks. I really should have known better. I had to scrounge around in my purse for a tissue... maybe they'll dismiss me if I start crying?

Braves and a Concert

When Dave heard that one of my favorite Christian singers, Matthew West, was going to give a concert after a Sunday afternoon Braves game, he got his hands on four tickets for us to go (though we had trouble finding someone to take the extra two tix... glad Heather and Marie were able to join us for the game in the end!) The game went 12 innings between the Braves v. Reds...

And he's out... Reds 4, Braves 2

I enjoyed the view of the capitol building in the gap between the stands and the big screen.

Dave is now a Matthew West fan since both grew up in the Chicago area and love the Cubs (though Matthew admittedly cheered for the Braves at this particular game...)


He even blogged about his Atlanta concert!

Goats on the Roof

After a nice hike, where do you go? To "Goats on the Roof" to get ice cream, of course! Thank you to the local hiker who told us it was just 5 miles up the road (more like 10, according to my dad...)

Tallulah Gorge: The South Rim

Dave and I planned a Labor Day weekend hike to return to Tallulah Gorge State Park after our brief visit in July. The friends we recruited to hike with us had to cancel for various reasons, so it ended up being an impromptu post-engagement hike with both of our parents. Pictures begin with the end of the North Rim Trail (under the overpass) and crossing the bridge over the dam to the South Rim Trail.





The parents made the executive decision to go from the South Rim to the North Rim because there were less stairs going up from the suspension bridge on the north side of the gorge. Then we all argued about whether or not the stairs at Amicalola Falls are worse.

Tallulah Gorge: The North Rim

On our way home from Highlands back in July, I convinced Dave to stop at Tallulah Gorge State Park on the way home. We had already hiked Glenn Falls earlier in the day, so we checked out the Jane Hurt Yarn Interpretive Center (aka the Visitors Center) and walked the 3/4 mile North Rim trail. At the first viewpoint, there was an old metal tower that was used to hold up a tightrope across the gorge in 1970. My only comment about the tightrope walker--only a guy would do something so stupid.





The views were pretty, and we decided to come back some time to hike the South Rim Trail and the stairs down to the suspension bridge that joins the rim trails on opposite sides of the gorge.

Whales, Rings, and Other Things

Dave took me to the Georgia Aquarium for my first visit this past Saturday. They have four whale sharks in their big tank--which happens to be the biggest aquarium tank in the world.

My favorites were the sea otters. However, they don't stay still long enough to get a clear picture!
